Although recently founded in 2013, some think of the Annapolis Film Festival (AFF) as an emerging Sundance Film Festival on the Chesapeake Bay because of its outstanding slate of independent feature, shorts and documentary films year after year. Enthusiastic film lovers will hurry from theater to theater to catch screenings in downtown Annapolis. Moviegoers can also hitch a free ride on the City Circulator trolley. You will get the picture from March 30 to April 2, 2017 in Annapolis.
Endeavoring to reflect America’s 21st Century diversity, AFF showcases outstanding films about the African-American, Jewish, and LGBT experience. The festival is also global, hosting pictures Western and Eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. In addition, there will be a Student Showcase highlighting 12 short films by young filmmakers.
Far from being staid, AFF premieres side-splitting comedies as well. The festival will also screen documentary films illustrating a great variety of topical subjects, including mental illness, war veterans, international politics, and sailing, which is the favorite sport of Maryland’s historic maritime capital. To spice up the festival, prominent figures of the film industry will give fascinating talks regarding their craft.
St. John College’s Key Auditorium will host AFF’s Opening Night, and Festival Central will be found at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. The primary location for workshops and panels will be O’Callaghan’s Hotel. Below are the event’s details.
