A terrific event for both spectators and participants, the 34th annual Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade (EYCLP) will color Annapolis on December 10, 2016. Scheduled on the second Saturday every December, the EYCLP brings magic to the waters of Annapolis Harbor. One of the most popular holiday events of Maryland’s capital, the parade is a wonderful way to spend a fun evening with friends and family. Dress warmly and come early to secure a great viewing spot. Enjoy a drink and meal afterwards at several local bars and restaurants offering specials to celebrate EYCLP and the coming holidays.

Annapolis’ Lights Parade

Illuminated by thousands of colored lights, boats materialize as they emerge from the darkness of a cold winter night. Along the waterfront, holiday revelers of all ages watch the unique spectacle in amazement and cheer on the festive crew members on deck.

Some 40 boats in two fleets navigate two portions of the harbor. One passes Eastport, the City Dock, and the seawall of the U.S. Naval Academy, while the second cruises the length of Spa Creek within the bridge.

Community Participation

Over three decades, the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade has become one of the most beloved happenings for Annapolitans. Founded in 1988, EYCLP brings together thousands of people every year. In preparation for the event, community volunteers decorate both the favorite viewing spots and boats with elaborate lighting schemes that celebrate the holiday season. School children create art to commemorate the parade, and prizes are awarded for their work. The organizer, the Eastport Yacht Club, has been an Annapolis institution since 1980 with this stated purpose: “Create and sustain an active social and community involvement.”
